The Peacock women's lacrosse team returned to the field on Friday, Mar. 4 in Quincy, Ill. for their first match since the 2020 season opener in the same stadium. Quincy University controlled the match and registered a 28-4 victory to improve to 1-3 on the season, while the Peacocks open 2022 with an 0-1 record.
The Hawks scored eight goals in the first period, seven in the second and third frames and added six in the final fifteen minutes, while Upper Iowa scratched the scoreboard once in the second quarter, twice in the third and one final time in the fourth quarter.
Sophomore Maya Chesky led the Peacocks with three goals on seven shots. Freshman Morgynn Spears scored a goal as well and added an assist on one of Chesky's goals. As a team, the Peacocks attempted 15 shots and put 10 on frame.
Danielle Robinson scored 12 goals to lead the Hawks connecting on 15 shots for an impressive 80% conversion rate. Bianca Johnson added six goals and an assist on eight shots, while Patricia Chavira added four goals and two assists on six shots. As a team, Quincy fired 44 shots and sent 34 of them at UIU's goal.
Upper Iowa will face off with the Griffons of Missouri Western State University next Saturday, Mar. 12 at 6 p.m. in St. Joseph, Mo. The Peacocks will open their home slate on Sunday, Mar. 20 at 2 p.m. against the Wildcats of Northern Michigan University.
