Upper Iowa's historical season came to a close in Sioux Falls, S.D. in the semifinals of the NCAA Division II Central Regional. The Peacocks lost a 65-60 decision to Augustana University in the round of 32 to finish the year with a 26-6 record.

Joe Smoldt (18) and
Jake Hilmer (17) combined for 35 points to lead Upper Iowa, while
Lucas Duax scored eight and
Nick Reid added seven.
Dylan Jones scored six points and hauled in 14 rebounds.

Tyler Riemersma led the Vikings with 17 points, 13 rebounds and six assists, while Isaac Fink scored 15 points.

A huge difference in the game was each team's efficiency in scoring off an offensive rebound. Augie held a slim 13-11 lead in offensive rebounds, but held a 17-5 advantage in second chance points.

Upper Iowa scored the first four points in the game on a pair of assisted lay ups, but Augustana answered with a 12-0 run that only used two minutes of game time.
Nick Reid knocked down a three-pointer from the corner to snap UIU's scoreless streak and sparked a 7-2 run that allowed the Peacocks to climb back within three, 14-11.

Jake Hilmer began to heat up on his pull-up jumper connecting on three straight makes to slim the margin to three, 20-17, but Augie answered with six straight points.
Lucas Duax drove hard for a lay in to end a three-minute scoring drought for UIU and set the score at 26-19 with less than six minutes to play.
Joe Smoldt hit a three-pointer and
Lucas Duax followed it up with another lay up to drop the deficit to four, 28-24, with just over three minutes on the clock.

Augie ended the half on a 5-0 run over the final three minutes extending their lead to nine, 33-24, as the teams went to the locker room.

Upper Iowa opened the second half with an 11-4 run paced by two scores from Hilmer, a three-pointer by Reid, a put back by
Dylan Jones and two free throws for
Jareese Williams. Augie's Tyler Riemersma stopped a three-minute scoreless drought for the Vikings with a jumper in the paint after UIU had pulled within two, 37-35.

Four straight free throws from Smoldt and Williams pulled UIU within two, 45-43, with 11 minutes to play. UIU had a layup to tie the score at 45-45 with 10:31 on the clock, but the try rolled around the rim and out. A three-point play got Augie back up five, but two possessions later
Dylan Jones was able to hit a layup in traffic to reset the margin to three, 48-45.

Hilmer was fouled on a three-point try and knocked down all three freebies to set the score at 54-51 with 5:27 showing on the clock. On UIU's next possession, a three-pointer rattled in and out as the Peacocks missed their second opportunity to tie the game. After the miss, Augie scored four points on an easy two thanks to a defensive miscommunication and a pair of free throws setting their lead at seven, 58-51.

Joe Smoldt knocked down a three-pointer in transition to pull UIU within four, 60-56, with 2:46 to play, but UIU wouldn't get any closer as the teams exchanged scores keeping the gap at four points, 64-60, with 1:36 showing on the clock. Augie added one final point on a free throw to secure the five-point, 65-60 win.
