Tate Murty closed out his season during the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championship's Session II on Friday night. After splitting a pair of matches in Session I, the Foutain City, Wis. native lost in the consolation round one match to end his year with a 14-4 mark.
Murty missed the first half of the season due to injury, but returned to the mat in January and claimed third place at the NCAA Super Region V Championships to qualify for his second straight NCAA Division II Championships.
UIU's 141-pounder lost his first match of the day by decision 9-5 to No. 2 Branson Proudlock of the University of Findlay, but bounced back with a win by fall in his second match. Murty pinned Ethan Leake of Chadron State College just prior to the end of the first period to earn two bonus points and his match in Session II.
In his final match of the season, Murty lost by fall (6:28) to Grayston DiBlasi from the Colorado School of Mines. DiBlasi moved his record to 26-7 with the win.
Inside of Murty's 14 wins were 10 bonus-point wins including four falls, four tech falls and two majors. In his three varsity seasons with UIU, Murty is now 53-27 overall with 22 falls, five tech falls and 10 majors.
