Upper Iowa rose a spot in one national men's basketball poll and held steady in the second poll this week after splitting a pair of games at the NSIC/Sanford Health Basketball Tournament in Sioux Falls, S.D. on Sunday and Monday. The Peacocks moved up to No. 13 in the National Association of Basketball Coaches NCAA Division II Top 25 with 208 points after spending last week at No. 14 and held on to their No. 12 spot with 205 points in the D2SIDA Division II Media Poll.
Upper Iowa moved to 25-5 after a win in the quarterfinals of the conference tournament over Northern State University, 89-80, and a tight 76-73 loss to No. 12/13 University of Minnesota Duluth in the semifinals at the Sanford Pentagon.
The ranking this week marks the twelfth time that UIU has been in the top 25 for the NABC poll and tenth time in the D2SIDA poll.
Two other NSIC schools join Upper Iowa in the national rankings again this week. Augustana University is ranked No. 5 in the NABC poll and No. 7 in the D2SIDA poll, while Minnesota Duluth comes in at No. 12 in the NABC ranking and No. 13 in the D2SIDA ranking.
The Peacocks split with UMD this season winning at home, 95-84, earlier this season before the Bulldogs avenged the loss Monday afternoon in Sioux Falls. Upper Iowa also defeated Truman State University, 103-77, who was ranked No. 2 at the time and currently receiving votes in the D2SIDA poll. The Peacocks and Vikings of Augustana have each defended their home court with UIU winning 84-65 in Fayette and Augie holding on for a 92-83 win in Sioux Falls this season.
Upper Iowa will now wait to see if they will be one of the five at-large bids for the NCAA Division II Central Region Championship on Mar. 12-15. The NCAA Division II men's basketball selection show will air on NCAA.com on Sunday, Mar. 6 at 9:30 p.m. Central Time.
