The Peacock wrestling team placed seventh at the 2022 NCAA Division II Super Region V Championships in Moorhead, Minn. on Saturday with 44 points.
Tate Murty led the Peacocks with a 4-1 record, a third-place finish and a berth to the NCAA Division II Championships.
St. Cloud State University won the regional team title with 136.5 points and qualified seven wrestlers for the championships, while Augustana University was second with 129.5 points and eight national qualifiers.
Tate Murty won four straight matches after a 13-11 quarterfinal loss to Keaton Schorr of Augustana University, who placed second at the regional. His wins included three bonus-point decisions on the way to the third-place match. Murty scored a 19-3 tech fall, a second-period fall (3:38) and an 11-0 major decision to earn his shot at the third place and a berth to the NCAA Division II Championships. Murty, fueled by four takedowns and a ride time point, secured his place in St. Louis in two weeks with a 9-2 victory and a third-place finish. Murty improved his record to 13-2 on the year with the 4-1 day.
Kaden Anderlik placed fourth at 133 pounds with a 2-2 record on the day. He opened his day with a 9-2 win over Isaiah Mlsna of Minnesota State University, Mankato, but lost a hard-fought bout 6-2 to Augustana's Jack Huffman, the eventual region champion. The Cresco, Iowa product rallied with a 6-3 win over the University of Wisconsin-Parkside's Joey Roti to earn a shot at third place and a trip to the NCAA Championships. In the third-place match, Anderlik ran into St. Cloud State's Garrett Vos, who won the bout 9-2 to close out the season for the UIU wrestler. Anderlik went 16-4 on the year for the Peacocks.
Chase Luensman had a great start to the day with a pair of wins moving him into the championship quarterfinals. UIU's 157-pounder won a 6-2 decision over Cooper Siebrecht of Minnesota State and then scored a 12-1 major over Peyton Ringling of MSU Moorhead. The Monticello, Iowa native lost an 8-2 decision in the championship semis to Tyler Wagener of Augustana, who placed second, and then dropped a 6-2 rematch decision to Siebrecht, who placed fourth. In the fifth-place match, Ben Durocher of Parkside outlasted Luensman 4-2 to end Luensman's year with a 19-6 record.
Eric Faught placed sixth in the 149-pound bracket after winning three matches on the day. Faught cruised to an early 11-0 major decision in the opening round over Trevor Fauver of the University of Mary. After a loss in the quarterfinals, the Clear Lake, Iowa native won back-to-back matches in the consolation brackets by tech fall (15-0) and decision (9-3) to reach the consolation semis. Faught's final match, a 7-2 loss, came against Kyle Rathman of Minnesota State University, Mankato to end his season. Faught finished the year with a 15-4 record.
Myron Crawford (184) scored a win in his first match with a 3-1 decision over Wyatt Lidberg of the University of Mary, but dropped a pair of close decisions in the quarterfinals and the consolation semis. Crawford was leading 4-2 early over Kolby Kost of Augustana with a pair of first-period takedowns, but Kost rallied to claim a 9-7 decision. Crawford got on the scoreboard first again against Gage Roaldson of Minnesota State University Moorhead, but the St. Louis, Mo. native's career came to an end in a 7-3 loss. Crawford closed his final campaign in Peacock blue and white with a 14-5 record.
Jordan Baumler got a tough draw in the heavyweight bracket lining up against St. Cloud State's Kameron Teacher, the reigning NCAA Division II Champion in the first round. Teacher won by fall in the second period, but Baumler bounced back with a first-period pin over Joshua Trumble of Northern State University. Baumler closed his season with a 4-0 loss to Jordan Will of Minot State University in the consolation third round. The West Union, Iowa product was 13-10 this season.
