Peacock men's soccer finished out their weekend of play in Hammond, Ind. where they faced Purdue University Northwest. They played to a scoreless draw with the Pride and their record shifted to 1-10-1 (0-7-1 GLIAC). PNW moved to 4-5-3 overall and 4-3-1 in conference.
In a tough fought battle on the road, Upper Iowa picked up their first tie of the season and recorded their first conference point. The Peacocks were outshot by the Pride 13-7. Frider Blunk led the team with three attempts while
Edward Stephens-Truman and
Dexter Garrett each chipped in one. Upper Iowa trailed in corner kick attempts 6-3.
Louis Nowack had the first notable chance for the Peacocks in the first half. A corner from
Angel Tapia made its way toward Nowack as he pounced on the chance but his volley crashed against the crossbar. The Peacock midfield continued to create opportunities, but to no avail.
Goalkeeper
Archie Watts took care of business between posts, pulling down seven saves in the match. This brings him to 59 total frames on the season so far.
Heading into half time at 0-0 for the first time this season, the Peacocks came out with their second wind. Stand-in right back
Edward Stephens-Truman found
Frider Blunck on a crossfield ball to create a scoring opportunity, but his effort missed just wide of the post. The Pride continued to hound the Upper Iowa backline, but Garrett and company would not break. In the last minute of the match, freshman
Gerardo Romo had an opportunity to score. His effort was cut out and the contest concluded.
The following weekend, Upper Iowa will look to carry this positive momentum as they host two home contests. They play a non conference matchup on Friday, Oct. 14 against Truman State. Game time is scheduled for 12 p.m. The Peacocks then return to GLIAC action on Sunday as they welcome in Saginaw Valley State for an 11 a.m. kick off.
