Peacocks Tie With Truman in Non-Conference Tilt

In their first contest of the weekend, Upper Iowa faced Truman State University in a non-conference duel. After a hard fought 90 minutes, the match resulted in a scoreless draw. The Peacocks moved to 1-10-2 (0-7-1 GLIAC) for the season and the Bulldogs shifted to 3-5-5 (2-4-3 GLVC).

The Peacocks dominated the early proceedings with shots from the sophomore trio Jonathan Bayer, Carson Cajuste and Kehinde Afolabi. None of those attempts caused too much trouble for Justin Olwig in the Truman net. Dexter Garrett also was given a scoring opportunity as he connected on a free kick from Edward Stephens-Truman and looked to convert, but was just off the mark. Truman eventually grew into the game and fashioned scoring opportunities of their own, however, the Peacock back line stood firm to keep the score 0-0 at the break.

The second half was a replica of the first. Ethan Bird, in for his second start of the season, alongside Garrett, continued to deal with the long ball threat presented by the Bulldogs. At the opposite end, UIU mustered 4 total shots. In the last remaining seconds of the game, Truman had an opportunity to seal the game when a cross from the left reached the back post, but freshman Omar Alfaro managed to nullify any scoring opportunity. This was the second tie for the Peacocks this season.

The Peacocks are back in action on Sunday, Oct. 16 as they take on Saginaw Valley State. Kick off against the Cardinals is scheduled for 11 a.m.
