Peacock Football Grabs Three Interceptions in Homecoming Loss

Box Score Upper Iowa football came up with three interceptions in Saturday's Homecoming Game at Harms-Eischeid Stadium, but the Augustana University Vikings overcame the misthrows and took home the win 31-14. The Peacocks fall to 0-6 on the season and 0-2 in NSIC South action, while Augie improves to 5-1 overall and 1-1 in the NSIC South.

Augustana turned to the ground game racking up 302 yards on 42 carries including three different rushers with a run of at least 30 yards. Isaiah Huber ran for 136 yards including a 72-yard touchdown, while David Addo rushed for 101 yards and two scores.

Upper Iowa's Desean Phillips ran for 60 yards on 10 carries and threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Eddie Burgess; Phillips also caught four passes from quarterback Marcus Orr. Orr threw for 171 yards with one touchdown and an interception.

While the Peacocks grabbed three interceptions thanks to the good hands of Stacey Terry, Tyler Owen, and Cody Cotton, the Vikings were able to break even on turnovers thanks to their interception and two fumble recoveries.

Peyton Bieber led the team with nine tackles including two for a loss with a sack. Collin Jones, Trevor Thompson and Owen all had five stops apiece, while Zacarius Murray and Terry each recorded four tackles.

After a sack fumble, the Vikings needed only two plays to score the game's first touchdown from the three-yard line. Upper Iowa tied the score midway through the second quarter with a pass from Phillips to Burgess, who was streaking down the middle of the field into the end zone. Augustana was able to answer on their next possession with a rush by Addo and took a 14-7 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Addo scored his second touchdown in the third quarter after an Augustana punt was mishandled and allowed the visitors to set up at the seven-yard line. The Vikings added a 33-yard field goal and the 72-yard sprint by Huber around a big play from the Peacocks. Upper Iowa faced a fourth down with five and a half minutes to play trailing 24-7. Orr found Richard Kamara on a post route and snuck the ball past the defender for a big 40-yard score that cut the gap to 10 points, 24-14, at the time.

The Peacocks will get back on the field for another Northern Sun Conference game on Saturday, Oct. 15. Upper Iowa is slated to take on the Mavericks of Minnesota State University, Mankato at 1 p.m. at Blakeslee Stadium.
