Peacock men's soccer traveled to Grand Rapids, Mich. to take on Davenport University for the second time this season. Upper Iowa suffered a 4-1 loss in the contest. The Panthers improved to 5-5-1 overall and 4-2-1 in conference and the Peacocks fell to 1-10-0 (0-7-0 GLIAC) for the season.
The Panthers struck first with a goal at the 6:15 mark. Upper Iowa answered back in the 29th minute of the match. As Davenport looked to reset offensively and pass back to their keeper, Upper Iowa put on their high pressure defense.
Gerardo Romo and
Millo Mamud crept up into the 18-yard box and it was Romo who broke up the connection pass between Davenport keeper Shane Marinkovich and his fellow teammates. Romo shot the ball and as it tipped off the keeper's hand, Mamud swooped in to finish it off as he tucked it away into the back of the net. This was Mamud's first goal of the season and first of his Peacock career. Romo tallied his first assist of the year and first of his career, as well.
The score remained 1-1 after the first half concluded. The Panthers went on to score three more goals in the second half. Their second one was netted at the 53:42 mark. Their third goal was scored in the 65th minute. Davenport executed their fourth and final score of the afternoon at the 80:03 mark.
Davenport outshot Upper Iowa 19-8. After seeing many attempts hurdled his way, goalkeeper
Archie Watts pulled down five saves in the match this afternoon.
Up next, the Peacocks travel to Hammond, Ind. to challenge the Pride. The contest at Purdue University Northwest will take place on Sunday, Oct. 9 at 10 a.m. CST.
