The Peacocks faced off against the Wildcats in their last home game of the season, resulting in a 4-2 loss. Upper Iowa shifts to 1-13-2 overall and 0-10-1 in conference. Northern Michigan improves to 5-6-4 for the year and 4-4-3 in the GLIAC.
The Wildcats were first to strike in the match. In the 17th minute, NMU took a corner kick that sailed over the Upper Iowa defense and into the possession of Quinn Putt, who pushed the ball past UIU's keeper for the 1-0 advantage.
Northern Michigan continued with their hot-shot offense and converted their second goal just a minute later on a breakaway in transition. This gave them a 2-0 lead, which only held for seven more minutes.
In the 25th minute of the game, the Peacocks looked to convert for their first score of the game.
Frider Blunck swerved between Wildcats as he played a pass from
Dexter Garrett and
Carson Cajuste. Blunck pushed the ball between defenders and past the goalkeeper as he netted Upper Iowa's first score l of the match. This was his third goal of the season and eighth of his career.
The Wildcats answered with one more goal before the first 45 minutes came to a close. At the 28:26 mark, NMU broke out into transition and attempted a shot that netted into the top right corner, leaving them with a 3-1 lead going into halftime.
The two teams battled it out evenly for the first part of the second half. In the 73rd minute, a foul was called on Upper Iowa in the box, giving Northern Michigan a penalty opportunity. Tomasso Lami stepped up and converted, tallying his second goal of the contest.
Upper Iowa remained resilient and created the same penalty kick opportunity for themselves just a few minutes later.
Leart Wunsch drew a foul in the box which gave
Edward Stephens-Truman the penalty opportunity. His successful attempt brought the game to a score of 4-2, in favor of Northern Michigan.
The Peacocks sought out several more scoring opportunities, but were just off the mark in doing so. The 4-2 result held for the entirety of the match.
Upper Iowa plays their last match of the season on Wednesday, Oct. 26 when they travel to St. Cloud, Minn. Kick off with the Huskies takes place at 7 p.m.
