Parkside Prevails Over Peacocks in First Match of the Weekend

Upper Iowa men's soccer faced (No. 14) UW Parkside in their first GLIAC competition of the weekend. The Peacocks fell to the Rangers in a 3-0 decision. Upper Iowa moved to 1-12-2 overall and 0-9-1 in conference. UW Parkside improved to 9-2-3 overall and 6-1-3 in the GLIAC.

The Peacocks started off on the front foot, pressing the Parkside from the outset. UIU sprung a few curves into the lineup with sophomore Jonathan Baylon returning to the starting eleven as well as a few other changes within the mixture.

Parkside capitalized on several stray few moments as they opened the scoring after converting on a freekick in the 23rd minute. Three minutes later, the Rangers doubled their lead on an unfortunate own goal from an errant Noah Gjervik header. Wisconsin-Parkside then made it 3-0 in the 35th minute through Alejandro Martinez, who fashioned himself an opportunity from a long ball clearance. His shot snuck in at the back post.

The Peacock's pushed for a comeback in the second half, seeing efforts from Omar Alfaro, Kehinde Alfolabi and Frider Blunck. They were all met with Parkside resistance as the score remained 3-0 for the entirety of the match.

UIU offered up eight shots in the match, five of them being on goal. UWP mustered up 12 attempts, six of which were on the mark.

Upper Iowa is back in action for their second contest of the weekend on Sunday versus Northern Michigan. Kick off is scheduled for 11 a.m.
