Upper Iowa grabbed the first set in tonight's NSIC volleyball match at No. 3 Concordia University, St. Paul, but the Golden Bears outlasted the Peacocks for a 3-1 victory. The Peacocks fall to 12-9 overall and 6-8 in the conference after the hard-fought loss, while CSP improved to 20-2 overall and 13-1 in the NSIC.
UIU scored a 25-20 first-set win thanks to 13 kills and just two attack errors, but Concordia's offense began to take over as the Golden Bears notched 16, 17 and 14 kills in the final three sets to win by scores of 25-18, 25-16, and 25-15.
In the end, the Golden Bears hit .352 in the match with 60 kills, while the Peacocks hit at a .203 clip with 43 kills. CSP also picked up advantages in aces (13-9), assists (57-39) and digs (57-44).
Maggie Streightiff knocked down 15 kills and hit .379 to lead the Peacock offense, while
Zoe Semelroth tallied 10 kills and a .667 hitting percentage. The pair combined for 25 kills on just 44 swings.
Nicole Pozorski handed out 33 assists, added five kills and a team-high 12 digs.
Four Golden Bears combined for all their kills paced by Jasmine Mulvihill's match-high 16 kills. Katie Mattson and Emma Schmidt each scored 14, while Sophia Andersen added 12. Teagan Starkey logged 55 assists, while Ellie Sieling picked up 18 digs.
Upper Iowa will head back to Fayette for a 5 p.m. match on Saturday, Oct. 22. The Peacocks will line up against the Mavericks of Minnesota State University, Mankato in Dorman Memorial Gymnasium.
