Upper Iowa women's soccer wrapped up their home stand with a match against Concordia St. Paul. The Peacocks fell 5-1 after witnessing five straight goals from the Golden Bears in the second 45 minute stint. The loss drops Upper Iowa to 2-6-3 overall and 1-4-3 in the NSIC. Concordia improves to 5-4-2 on the season and 4-2-1 in the conference.
The Peacocks were first to strike as a nifty goal was executed by
Nora Nouhaili in the ninth minute of the contest. With an assist from
Chloe Jarosz and
Alex Garcia, Nouhaili was able to launch the ball over the keeper's head into the top right corner. She recorded her first goal of the season and of her Peacock career. Upper Iowa exited the first half with the 1-0 lead.
The Golden Bears came out in the second half with new life and tons of momentum. They saw their first goal at the 54:40 mark from Nikkie Anderson. From then on, they continued to score a spree of goals. Their next one was netted in the 58th minute of the match, marking Anderson's second score of the match. At the 78:08 mark, Concordia executed for their third goal of the afternoon. Their fourth and fifth goals came in the 82nd and 88th minute.
Upper Iowa was able to get off a number of shots but weren't able to properly execute. They attempted 11 shots, four of which were on goal. Concordia only outshot them by five attempts, tallying 16 for the afternoon. The Golden Bears had 11 corner kicks in comparison to UIU who had none.
With a combination of
Jamie Kerkvliet and
Isabelle Wagner splitting time between posts, Upper Iowa grabbed five saves in the contest.
The Peacocks are back in action next weekend as they travel to Minnesota for a pair of conference matches. They face off with the University of Minnesota Crookston on Friday, Oct. 7 at 3 p.m. Their second match will take place at Bemidji State University on Sunday, Oct. 9. Kick off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
