Peacocks Sweep Dragons for Tenth Win

The Peacock volleyball team earned a weekend split after sweeping the Dragons on Minnesota State University Moorhead on Saturday afternoon in Fayette. Upper Iowa earned 25-20 and 25-23 wins in sets one and three around a dominant performance in the second set claiming a 25-8 victory. The sweep was UIU's fifth of the season and improved their record to 10-5 overall and 4-4 in the conference. MSUM dropped to 5-11 overall and 2-6 in the NSIC.

Upper Iowa tallied 37 kills in the match and held their guests to only 24 in the three sets. The Peacock defense was on full display forcing the Dragons into 18 attack errors and a .050 hitting percentage. Kaci Beesecker led the way with 24 digs, while Lydia Imbrogno (13) and Madelyn Rettler (10) combined for 23 more. In total, UIU came up with 67 digs in the three frames.

Nicole Pozorski led a very balanced attack from her setter position. Pozorski notched 27 assists with nine kills going to Zoe Semelroth, eight to Rettler and six each to Kylie Willis and Imbrogno. Maggie Streightiff added four kills and Pozorski called her own number four times as well.

The home team broke open a close first set with a 5-0 run that pushed a one-point lead to six, 22-16, late in the frame. Upper Iowa was in total control in the second set. After working ahead 15-5 thanks to runs of five and six-straight scores, the Peacocks kept the pressure on with another 5-0 outburst and closed the set scoring five of the final six points. In the final frame, the Dragons held a 21-20 lead late, but Upper Iowa posted the five of the final six points to rally from behind and get the sweep.
