Peacocks Win Two on Day One of Capital Classic

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Peacocks put together a solid first day at the Capital Classic hosted by the University of Illinois-Springfield on Friday. Upper Iowa swept Purdue University-Northwest and then defeated Illinois-Springfield in four sets to improve to 5-1 on the season. The Peacocks scored the 3-0 win over the Pride in the opening match by scores of 25-18, 25-19, and 25-11 and then posted a 3-1 win over the Prairie Stars in the nightcap by scores of 25-17, 25-15, 20-25, and 25-18.

Following the matches, Head Coach Aaron Nelson said, "This morning we did a nice job of handling the ball in serve receive and defensively which allowed us to be aggressive with our attack. This evening started off strong and we played pretty clean volleyball in the first two sets. UIS raised their level of play and we got a little undisciplined with our blocking and defense, but we buckled down in the fourth and rose to the challenge for another nice road win. Great team effort today."

Upper Iowa will return to the court tomorrow to line up against McKendree University at 1 p.m. and No. 8 Northwest Missouri State University at 4 p.m.
