WHAT YOU MAY HAVE MISSED VS. THE WILDCATS… The Peacocks hosted the Wildcats of Northern Michigan University this past Saturday. UIU held NMU scoreless for 40 minutes before Ryan Palmbaum scored on a free-kick following an Upper Iowa foul for his third score of the season. The Peacocks scored on their own net with just two seconds to spare in the first frame. The Wildcats scrambled to get off one last corner kick when the clock was winding down. As the ball came into the box, a UIU defender accidentally scored an own goal when attempting to deter the cross. The second half was scoreless resulting in the 2-0 defeat. On the brightside, the Peacocks got off their second-highest shot total on the year with eight while holding NMU to a season-low 11 shots.
ON THE ATTACK… Upper Iowa has scored two of their four goals this year on the road. Both scores came in a win over Purdue University-Northwest as they belonged to Stan Cargill and Alan Dunlop. Cargill leads the team in points (5), goals (2), shots (9), and shots on goal (6). Dunlop is a defender and a staple on the backline but also plays a role on offense. The junior has three points to his name and three shots, all of which have come on target. Frider Blunck, Duarte Farroco da Fonte, Tate Lofdahl, and Giuliano Roberts have all registered points as well and look to make an impact on offense against the Eagles.
EYEING THE EAGLES… Ashland is 1-4 on the season. The Eagles are currently on a four-game skid after securing a 2-1 win over the defending GLIAC champion, the University of Wisconsin Parkside in overtime at home to open the season. All four of the Eagles losses came with a margin of two goals or less; 2-0 to PNW, 4-3 to Northern Michigan University, 1-0 in overtime to Saginaw Valley State University, and 4-2 to Northwood University. Brandon Davidson and Kieren Paterson pace the Eagle offense. Davidson has tallied three goals, two of which came against Northern Michigan. Paterson has notched a pair of goals and an assist. In net for Ashland is Jakob Henriksen who's allowed 12 goals and made a GLIAC leading 41 saves in five starts. As a team, Ashland has been outscored 12-7 through five games.
UP NEXT… Upper Iowa's next match will come on Saturday, Apr. 17 at 2 p.m. at Saginaw Valley State.
