Upper Iowa fell 4-1 to Saginaw Valley State University on Thursday afternoon. Following the match, UIU ends the regular season at 0-7 while No. 7 SVSU remains perfect at 7-0. The two teams will meet again on Sunday, Apr. 25 at 11 p.m. EST in the GLIAC Tournament Quarterfinals. The upcoming match marks the Peacocks first postseason appearance since joining the GLIAC in 2019.

The Cardinals found the net first in the 17th minute when leading scorer Danny Barlow came into the box and headed a cross off the foot of Benjamin Adamson. Alex Gloshen set up Adamson and was credited with an assist on Barlow's sixth goal of the season. Prior to that point SVSU missed their first two shots of the day as the Peacocks hunkered down on defense against Saginaw's league-leading offense.

Reighly Schultz kept SVSU scoreless for the remainder of the half tallying a trio of saves. Ryan Wooten notched his first shot on goal of the year in the first frame but couldn't connect.

Barlow found the net for the second time in the match and the seventh time this season just a shade over three minutes into the second half. The score came unassisted as the senior dribbled it himself into the box prior to shooting the ball past an outstretched Schultz.

The Peacocks found the back of the net themselves in the 63th minute halving their deficit. Stan Cargill was all alone on the left side of the box when Tate Lofdahl sent a crisp pass the sophomore's way who scored on the right side of the goal for his fourth score of the season, the third highest total in the conference. The assist marked Lofdahl's third of the season, the team-lead and the third highest mark in the GLIAC as well.

Barlow completed the hat trick at the 75:55 mark, notching his eighth goal of the season, a GLIAC best. Brady Walker scored in the 87th minute for the Cardinals. Owen Marshall was there on the assist for Walker's second goal of the season and SVSU's fourth score of the day.

QUOTABLE... "We didn't really show the same desire as a group today as we have in previous games and Saginaw was able to take advantage of it today, especially in the later stages of the game. Defensively we weren't as strong today and we weren't able to play quickly enough offensively," said Head Coach Willie McGowan.

"It was a strange game knowing the result wasn't really going to change standings, and I didn't feel we were really out of the game until they scored that third goal. We can be dangerous going forward and we showed that with the goal we scored. Moving into the next game we need to bring more to the table as we did today and know that in tournament play that anything can happen!"
