OVERTIME WITH THE EAGLES… The Peacocks forced an extra period in their most recent match at Ashland University for the first time since October 2019. The day began with Upper Iowa finding the net first for the second time this season. Stan Cargill made his way into the box after Frider Blunck and Tate Lofdahl connected a pair of passes allowing the sophomore forward to score in the 19th minute. On the opposite end of the pitch, Reighly Schultz deterred all four shots he faced in the opening period. Haruki Kimura scored for Ashland in the 57th minute tying things up at one. Kimura found the net again in overtime on a free kick with 3:24 remaining on the clock winning the match for AU.
STAN THE MAN… Saturday's score marked Cargill's third of the season, a team-high. The sophomore leads UIU in points with seven, shots with 10, and shot percentage at .300. Cargill will hope to bring his offensive efficiency with him to Michigan in UIU's first GLIAC postseason appearance.
HELPING FEET… With Lofdahl and Blunck both registering an assist over the weekend, the duo have propelled themselves into the team-lead in the category breaking a six-way tie. Cargill, Alan Dunlop, Duarte Farroco da Fonte, and Giuliano Roberts are the other Peacocks who've found an open teammate for a goal this season.
COMBATING THE CARDINALS… Saginaw Valley State is undefeated at a GLIAC best 6-0 and ranked seventh overall in the nation. The Cardinals remain hungry for a championship after falling 2-1 in 2019's final match to the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. Danny Barlow leads the GLIAC in goals with five and points with 12 despite playing one less game than the majority of his opponents. His running mate, Kaire Coore, is second in the conference in points with 11, goals with four, and assists with three. In net for the Cardinals is Mason Maziasz who's made 14 saves while allowing just five goals. As a team, Saginaw has scored triple the amount of goals of their opponents (15-5).
