Game One: Minnesota State 2, Upper Iowa 1

Upper Iowa got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the fourth inning in an untraditional way. Jake Hilmer got aboard on an infield single thanks to a beautifully placed bunt down the third baseline. The second-year freshman then made it all the way to third base on a wild pitch preceded by a passed ball. Hogan Penny then struck out swinging with two outs, but the pitch was wild providing a way for the senior to reach first base and Hilmer to score putting UIU up 1-0.

Minnesota State quickly scored a run of their own in the following frame. A pair of walks and a single loaded the bases full of Mavericks before a fielder's choice evened things up at one.

The game stayed tied until Joey Werner doubled in the game-winning run in the top of the tenth inning. The Peacocks were unable to score in the bottom half resulting in the 2-1 loss.

Duncan Snider received no-decision after six innings of work allowing one run on three hits and four walks while setting down seven Mavericks on strikes. Snider started the day on fire retiring nine of the first 10 batters he faced. Chris Webber saw his record even at one after being awarded the loss. Despite allowing the game-winning earned run, Webber provided four strong innings on the hill allowing just two hits and two free passes while fanning four.

In the opposing dugout, Jon Ludwig had a strong no-decision fanning nine and allowing one earned run on four hits in seven innings of work. Jack Zigan got the win following two scoreless innings while Hunter Even picked up his seventh save of the season after shutting down UIU's bats to close out the 10th.

Game Two: Minnesota State 8, Upper Iowa 0

Minnesota State quickly tacked on five runs in the opening frame via four hits including a two-run home run, a pair of walks, and an error. The Mavericks added another in the fourth following a pair of singles and some smart base running. A solo shot off the bat of Cam Kline pushed MSU's advantage to 7-0. The Mavericks scored their eighth and final run in the sixth after a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded. The Peacocks had three hits in the outing but were unable to produce a run.

UIU saw four arms in the second game. Jarrett Ramer was awarded the loss after allowing five runs, three earned all of which came in the opening frame. Steve Marhefke then saw three innings on the mound where he allowed two earned runs on four hits and a walk. Drew Callon allowed the final earned run in the sixth but also fanned a Maverick in his first appearance of 2021. SJ Mousseau closed out the day with a 1-2-3 inning on the mound.
