THIS WEEKEND IN PEACOCK'S MEN'S SOCCER… Upper Iowa will host Northern Michigan University for its final home match of the spring on Saturday, Apr. 3 at 11 a.m. Attendance policies have changed regarding GLIAC events as 375 fans are now permitted to attend men's soccer home games. However, those who can't attend can follow along via live stats and a webcast without audio at UIUPeacocks.com/LIVE while gameday programs have gone digital and can be found at UIUPeacocks.com/PROGRAMS for all fans to enjoy.

PACING THE PANTHERS… The Peacocks held the visiting Davenport University Panthers to just two goals in Saturday's match, a steady improvement from Fall 2019's pair of 5-0 defeats. The Panthers netted both goals in a 12-minute span. The first on an impressive header by Cian Quinn off a corner kick from Evan Marquess at the 21:44 mark. Marquess found the net himself with 33:22 on the clock extending DU's lead to two. UIU registered four shots in the match, three in the second half and one on target but none were able to find the net.

GOLDEN GOAL… Upper Iowa saw both its goalkeepers, Reighly Schultz and Osvaldo Alonzo register three saves apiece in Saturday's loss. Schultz holds a GLIAC second-best 27 saves behind Ashland University's keeper. Alonzo's three goals were the first he's registered this year giving him a share of ninth place among the conference leaders.

THE BOYS ON THE BACKLINE… Alan Dunlop, Fabian Rummel, Iver Nesset, Hunter Hockman, and Nolan Schulte along with the Peacock goalies faced 19 shots, eight of which were on target, on Saturday helping to deter 17 of them and make a team save on one of the shots. The unit has faced its fair share of attempts during the season and have made a significant and noticeable effort to help limit opposing goals scored.

WEIGHING THE WILDCATS… NMU holds the career series 2-1 claiming a pair of wins in fall 2019 while the Peacocks won the two team's first matchup during the 2017 season. After starting the season with a two-game skid, Northern Michigan has won back-to-back matches to even their record at 2-2. The Wildcats lost 4-0 versus Saginaw Valley State University and 2-1 to Davenport before winning 4-3 over Ashland and most recently, 1-0 at Purdue-Northwest University. Ryan Palmbaum leads NMU in goals (2), assists (2), points (6), and shots on goal (6). Kaffie Kurz leads the team in shots with 13 and narrowly trails Palmbaum with five points midway through the season. In net for the Wildcats is Alex Weaver, a sophomore who has yet to miss a minute while allowing nine goals and making 19 saves. As a team, Northern Mich. has been outscored 9-6 through four games.

UP NEXT… Upper Iowa will close out the year on the road. The team's next match will come on Saturday, Apr. 10 at 3 p.m. against Ashland.
