The Upper Iowa women's golf team finished a windy tournament in St. Joseph, Mo. ranked 12th out of 18 teams in the Holiday Inn Express Classic hosted by Missouri Western State University. The team had to battle consistent winds of 20+ mph as well as cooler temperatures over the course of their two-day tournament at the St. Joseph Country Club.
The Peacocks recorded rounds of 344 on Monday and 340 on Tuesday to compile a 684 total in the tournament. UIU finished just five strokes back of Augustana University (SD) and the University of Nebraska Kearney who were tied for 10th as they each recorded a score of 679. Upper Iowa's total was 13 strokes ahead of 13th-ranked Concordia University, St. Paul (697).
The University of Central Oklahoma (637) finished with the low score of the tournament as they shot 322 in round one and 315 in round two. Northeastern State University finished second at 648 (328-320), Southwestern Oklahoma State University (654) claimed third as they shot 331 and 323 in their rounds, and Rogers State University rounded out the top four with a score of 663 (335-328).
MacKayla Olsen shot an 80 in the opening round thanks to three birdies and was tied for sixth in the tournament after the first day of competition. MacKayla wrapped up the tournament tied for 15th as she shot 165 (80-85) over her two rounds.
MacKenzie Olsen notched the low round for the Peacocks in the second day of play as she shot an 82. MacKenzie recorded one of the two eagles that were shot over the entirety of the tournament field, helping her finish second on the team and tied for 50th in the tournament with a score of 173 (91-82).
Brooke Knutson ended her competition tied for 54th as she shot 174, tying for 12th place in par-five scoring with a 5.42 (+5) average.
Molly Wenthold (88-87) shot 175 to tie for 59th, while
Jaden Schweinefus (88-90) shot 178 and finished tied for 17th in pars shot (16) over the two rounds.
"We battled again today. The pin locations tested our mental game, not to mention temps in the 40s and winds howling at 20-25 mph. We are really close to shooting quality scores. We need to eliminate our scores above bogey." - Head Coach

Next up, the Peacocks will host the UIU Invitational in Waterloo, Iowa at Sunnyside Country Club on Friday and Saturday, Apr. 2-3.
