INCOMPLETE COMEBACK… The Peacocks fell 3-2 to Northwood University on Sunday afternoon. After trailing 2-0 to begin the match, Upper Iowa tied the game up at two at the 62:37 mark. The Timberwolves found the net for the third time in the 81st minute, Upper Iowa was unable to retaliate ending the game at 3-2. GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week, Amedeo Crovasce, led the way for NWU scoring the first pair of goals in a 5:16 span and assisting on the third.
FRIDER THE LEADER… Frider Blunck led the Peacocks in Sunday's close loss to Northwood. The freshman got off four shots and assisted Stan Cargill on UIU's first goal of the match before tying the game up in the 63rd minute with a goal of his own. Blunck's play helped earn him a GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week Honorable Mention.
UPPERCLASSMEN'S EFFORTS… Alan Dunlop and Tate Lofdahl registered assists during the match on underclassmen goals. Dunlop, a junior defender, found sophomore forward Cargill for the first score of the day. Lofdahl, a senior forward, connected with the freshman forward Blunck for the second goal of the match. After handling the scoring in the first match of the year, the duo spread the wealth to their younger teammates in the closely-contested contest.
READING THE RANGERS… Despite being selected to win the conference in the 2021 GLIAC Men's Soccer Preseason Poll, Wisconsin-Parkside has begun the year on a two-game skid dropping their season-opener 2-1 at Ashland University before suffering a 4-2 loss at home to Saginaw Valley State University. The Rangers were the GLIAC's top team last season with a 13-5-3 (10-2-2) record as they defeated SVSU 2-1 in the 2019 league championship. Parkside holds the advantage in the career series 8-2 including a pair of wins amid their 2019 title run. Max Ludwig and Tode Atlija return to lead UWP's offense. Atlija tallied 14 points (five goals, four assists) while Ludwig registered six assists during the 2019 season.
