The Peacock wrestling team opened their 2021-22 season in Indianola, Iowa at the Luther Hill Invitational hosted by Simpson College. Upper Iowa sent 23 wrestlers (attached and unattached) to the event and 21 of the Peacocks placed in their respective weight classes.

Upper Iowa claimed wins in 78 of their 102 matches on the day, while posting the most falls (15) and tech falls (4) on the day. In total, the UIU wrestlers scored 570 total match points. Cael Meyer (unattached) earned the most falls winning all four of his matches with a pin, while Ethen Doty (unattached) scored the fastest fall in just 11 seconds. Chase Luensman scored the most points on the day for UIU with 53 in the 157-pound bracket.
 
Four Peacocks earned championships in the Open brackets; Kaden Anderlik (133), Eric Faught (149), Chase Luensman (157) and Jordan Baumler (285). Four UIU athletes also notched runner-up finishes in the Open brackets; Donny Schmit (133), Scott Kellenberger (165), Myron Crawford (184) and Bodie Garnier (197).
 
Three more UIU wrestlers earned weight class titles in the Freshman/Sophomore brackets; Doty (unattached, 141), John Ebaugh (149) and Meyer (unattached, 174). An additional trio of Peacocks gained runner-up status in the Freshman/Sophomore brackets; Colby Lopez (125), Kain Luensman (unattached, 149) and Gunner Rodgers (157).
 
Anderlik won his title at 133 pounds with a 3-0 record registering one major decision, while Faught posted a 4-0 record to win the crown at 149 pounds. Faught scored a fall and a major decision in his victories. Chase Luensman also went 4-0 at 157 pounds claiming a fall and tech fall in his wins, while Baumler recorded his 4-0 mark with four decisions.

Schmitt was 3-0 before bowing out prior to the title match with Anderlik to claim second behind a fall and major decision during his time on the mat. Kellenberger went 3-1 with a major decision and a tech fall before placing second at 165 pounds. Crawford was 2-1 on the day at 184 pounds recording a major, and Garnier also posted a 2-1 record at 197 to place second.

Ryan Steffen placed third at 157 pounds with a 3-1 record thanks to a major decision and a tech fall, while Dakota Henry (125, 2-2), Dalton Schams (149, 3-2, 2 majors) and Chance Throndson (157, 2-2, fall, major) all placed fifth in their respective weight classes. Colter Bye placed sixth at 0-2 in the 174-pound bracket. While Dakota Henry (125) didn't place, he did score a 2-2 record on the day.

Doty (unattached) went 4-0 in the Freshman/Sophomore 141-pound bracket with a 4-0 record and three falls to his name, while John Ebaugh pushed through the Freshman/Sophomore 149-pound weight class with a 4-0 mark scoring a major along the way.  Meyer (unattached) had an equally impressive debut with a 4-0 record in the Fr/So 174-pound bracket thanks to all four wins coming by fall.
 
Lopez placed second with a 2-1 mark including a major decision, while Kain Luensman went 3-1 to place second thanks to a major and fall at 149. Rodgers claimed two wins in three matches and picked up a major decision to claim second at 157 pounds.
 
Ben Foelske (unattached) placed fourth after going 2-2 at 157 pounds, and Hunter Bye (unattached) claimed fifth with a 4-2 mark behind a fall, tech fall and a major. Reily Dolan (unattached, 141, 3-2, technical fall) and Jackson Rolf (unattached, 157, 2-2, fall) both had their hand raised more than once despite not placing in their respective weight classes.

Upper Iowa will battle Ouachita Baptist University in La Crosse, Wis. on Friday, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. The Peacocks will then take part in the Luther College Open on Saturday, Nov. 13 in Decorah, Iowa.
