Peacocks Sweep Marauders to Celebrate Senior Night

Upper Iowa notched a 3-0 sweep of the University of Mary on Friday night to put an exclamation point on Senior Night in Fayette. Following the match, the Peacocks honored their three seniors; Charisma Herr, Kaitlin Niedert and Maggie Streightiff. UIU controlled the action winning by scores of 25-17, 25-12 and 25-19.

 

The Peacock defense ruled the day holding the Marauders to 24 kills in three sets while forcing 19 attack errors and a .051 hitting percentage from their guests. Upper Iowa also made their serves count claiming a 12-3 advantage in aces led by Niedert's six aces.

 

Niedert also led the offense with 13 kills, while Kylie Willis recorded eight and Streightiff chipped in six. Willis also notched four blocks. Nicole Pozorski directed traffic in the Peacock attack with 27 assists and added 13 digs. Madelyn Rettler registered 12 digs and Herr added eight.

 

UIU's offense opened the match with a .105 hitting percentage in the first set, but steadily improved their efficiency in the second set to .154 before letting loose in the third frame. Upper Iowa notched 16 kills and just three errors in the third set to hit .351. For the match, Niedert hit .357 and Willis notched a .538 percentage to lead UIU.

 

With the win, the Peacocks improve to 18-8 overall and 11-6 in the Northern Sun with three regular season matches to go. UIU sits in a four-way tie for fifth place, one match behind fourth and one match in front of ninth place.

 

Upper Iowa will return to Prochaska Court on Saturday afternoon for their final home match of the 2021 season. The Peacocks will host the Beavers of Minot State University for a 2 p.m. start. Next weekend, UIU will head north to compete against Northern State University and Minnesota State University Moorhead in the final two regular season matches of the season. The top eight teams in the standings at the end of the season will compete in the NSIC Championships at The Pentagon in Sioux Falls, S.D.
