Peacocks Bested by Beavers in Minot

The Upper Iowa University women's soccer team fell by a score of 3-0 against Minot State University in Minot, N.D. The Peacocks fall to 5-3-0 (3-3-0 NSIC) on the season while Minot improves to 7-2-0 (6-0-0 NSIC) on the year.

With the Peacocks looking to hand the Beavers their first conference loss, the home team connected on their first shot of the match at the 6:01 mark to hand UIU an early 1-0 deficit.

UIU's first shot came in the 20th minute, but the attempt was off target. Katie Samuels took her second shot for UIU in the 36th minute, but that on-target attempt was saved by Minot. The first half ended with a 1-0 lead for the Beavers despite UIU holding a 3-2 shot advantage. 
 
The second period started similarly to the first half as Minot State converted their first shot of the half at the 50:42 mark to increase their advantage to 2-0. UIU's first shot of the half came at the 48:17 mark, but their next attempt would not come until the 74th minute. Katie Samuels took a shot at the 73:04 mark that missed high, and she quickly followed that attempt with a shot on goal at the 73:23 mark that was saved by the Beavers. Kaitlyn Adamov put a pair of shots on goal for the Peacocks in the 79th and 85th minutes, but both attempts were saved by Minot.
 
Minot State pushed their lead to 3-0 in the 87th minute as Sofia Lewis put a shot on goal that was blocked by UIU's Natalie Rudrud before Lewis cleaned up the rebound to score her second goal of the match.

PEACOCKS OF THE GAME... 
  • Katie Samuels led the Peacocks with four shots, including two on goal.
  • Kaitlyn Adamov came in as a substitute and put two shots on goal in her 12 minutes.


STATS OF THE GAME... 
  • UIU earned a 3-2 advantage in shots in the first half, but Minot ended with a 9-8 advantage in shots.
  • The teams finished with four shots on goal apiece, but Minot converted on 75% of their shots on goal while UIU was unable to convert. 


UP NEXT... UIU will head to Minnesota for a pair of NSIC matches, starting with a matchup against Minnesota State University, Mankato on Friday, Oct. 8 in Mankato, Minn. at 3 p.m. before a matchup against Concordia University, St. Paul on Sunday, Oct. 10 in St. Paul, Minn. at 1 p.m.
