The Peacock softball team concluded their time at the Alvy Early Memorial Classic with a pair of losses on Sunday. Upper Iowa fell to Southeastern Oklahoma State University 5-3 after a late-game rally came up short and was upended 13-5 against No. 23 Arkansas Tech University in the second game of the day.
Upper Iowa tallied 22 hits throughout the weekend including four home runs and a pair of doubles. The Peacocks grabbed 36 total bags and scored on 15 occasions. Junior Katie Crogan batted .429 and slugged .857 to lead the team with 12 total bases, six hits, and three RBI in UIU's four games. Ali Green also totaled three RBI with four hits in 12 at-bats, while Kennedy Newell (.400) and Calista Brockman (.375) each batted above .300 and registered multiple hits.
The Peacocks will have a couple weeks off before traveling to Clermont, Fla. for the PFX Spring Games where Upper Iowa will face 10 opponents between Mar. 7-12.Â

Southeastern Oklahoma State 5, Upper Iowa 3
The Savage Storm scratched the scoreboard first with a run in the first inning and then pushed their lead to two with a lead-off home run in the top of the second. The Peacocks were able to tie the score shortly after thanks to a pair of solo homers from Katie Crogan and Kennedy Newell in the bottom half of the inning.
After Southeastern added a score in the third, fourth, and sixth to capture a 5-2 lead, Upper Iowa had some work to do. The Peacocks were able load the bases in the sixth thanks to a trio of singles from Crogan, Payton Kastenschmidt and Newell, but the Savage Storm were able to work themselves out of the jam without allowing a score.Â
In the seventh, Kaitlyn Carlson reached on a double, and then advanced to third on a passed ball. She later scored on an RBI groundout by Kaylee Frenette, but the Peacocks were unable to do any more damage as SE coaxed the final out to end the game ahead by two.
Arkansas Tech 13, Upper Iowa 5 (5 Innings)
After a scoreless half inning from the Peacocks, the Golden Suns tallied four runs on three hits and an error for a 4-0 lead after one complete. Upper Iowa then responded with five unanswered runs fueled by a pair of two-RBI homers. In the second, Crogan laced a single up the middle before Calista Brockman hit her first collegiate long-ball to cut the deficit in half. The Peacocks then took the lead in the third when Ali Green's sacrifice bunt scored Jordyn Brennan and Crogan's second home run of the day brought herself and Frenette back to the dugout.
The Golden Suns exploded for six runs on five hits in the bottom of the third highlighted by a grand slam off the bat of junior Makenzie Addis. Arkansas Tech extended its lead to seven in the fourth and was able to able to shorten the game to five innings with the final insurance tally in the fifth.Â
