The Upper Iowa men's basketball team dropped their Friday night contest to the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs 90-65 Friday night's setback brings the Peacocks record to 6-19 (3-16 NSIC) while the Mustangs improve to 14-11 (9-10 NSIC).
The Peacocks found themselves in turnover trouble against SMSU, coughing the ball up 17 times to the Mustangs who were able to turn those into 20 points. Of the 17 UIU turnovers, 13 came from steals by the Mustangs.
SMSU started the game red-hot, shooting 63.3 percent in the first frame and knocking down nine long-range shots. On the other end of the floor, UIU hit 46.4 percent of their first half shots while hitting half of their attempts from beyond the arc in the first half.
Both Upper Iowa and Southwest Minnesota pulled in 28 boards apiece.
Munachiso Okonkwo led all players on both sides with nine rebounds.
Upper Iowa shooters combined for a 48.1 field goal percentage and buried 9 of their 22 three-point attempts.
The Peacocks offense was led by
Kyle Haber who went 6 for 9 from the field and tallied 15 points. Haber was supported by
Jackson Joens who added nine points, and
Jareese Williams and
Jackson Foley who scored eight points apiece against the Mustangs.
The Mustangs benefited from strong performances by Ryan Bruggeman and Taylor Schafer on Friday night. Bruggeman recorded a team-high 26 points while Schafer dropped 18 thanks to his four long-range makes.
