Upper Iowa's offense struggled to get going on Saturday night as the USF Cougars topped the Peacocks 80-60. Saturday night's loss to the Cougars drops Upper Iowa's record to 6-20 (3-17 NSIC) while USF improves to 17-9 (12-8 NSIC).
USF led from wire to wire on Saturday night, scoring the first eight points of the contest and never looking back. The Peacocks were able to get within one of the Cougars in the first half but could not overtake their opponents who maintained the lead for the entirety of the game.Â
The Cougars defense was able to limit the production of UIU's offense, holding the Peacocks to just 34 percent shooting from the field. The Peacocks did not find much more success beyond the arc, hitting just 5 of the 24 attempts.
Upper Iowa was able to find a bit of success from the charity stripe, knocking down 19 of their 23 free throws. On the other end of the court, USF struggled from the line, hitting just 8 of their 20 attempts from the line.Â
Chris Olson Paced UIU's scorers with 15 points against the Cougars. Olson was supported on offense by
Kyle Haber (9 points),
Joe Smoldt (8 points), and
Jackson Foley (7 points).Â
Sioux Falls ran their offense through their two leading scorers Trevon Evans and Drew Guebert. Evans led the Cougars scoring efforts with a team high 28 points including knocking down five shots from deep. Guebert dropped 20 points for USF 7 for 8 shooting.
The Peacocks will return to action next weekend for, the final home stand of the season. Upper Iowa will host Minnesota State on Friday before welcoming Concordia - St. Paul on Saturday. Prior to Saturday's game against the Golden Bears, the Peacocks will honor their two Peacock seniors who will play their final in Dorman Gym.Â
