Upper Iowa's
Nick Baumler earned the Northern Sun Conference Wrestler of the Week honor after going 3-0 and leading the Peacocks to an undefeated run at the Desert Duals. The NSIC player of the week award is Upper Iowa's third of the year; the Peacock women's golf team claimed the first honor of the year and the women's soccer team grabbed the second.
The senior improved to 19-1 on the season with a 3-0 record at the Desert Duals in Las Vegas. Baumler scored 14 points for the Peacocks in his three wins thanks to a fall (1:58), tech fall (17-2) and decision (5-1). The senior 197-pounder allowed only three escape points to his opponents in the matches. Baumler is ranked No. 1 in the NWCA Division II Polls.
UIU went 4-0 on the day to improve to 7-0 on the season in duals. The Peacocks defeated Simon Fraser University 33-7, the No. 14 University of North Carolina Pembroke 26-12, Cloud County Community College 48-0 and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University 34-10. The shutout of Cloud County marked the 13th time that the Peacocks have held their opponents scoreless under Head Coach
Heath Grimm.
The Peacocks will return to action in the New Year at the NIACC Open in Mason City on Saturday, Jan. 4. Upper Iowa will then travel to Louisville, Kent. To compete in the NWCA National Duals on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 10-11.
