The Peacock women's soccer team came up just shy in a double overtime match at home on Senior Day in Fayette. Upper Iowa played well, but missed out on conference points when the University of Mary ended the match with seven minutes to play in the second overtime. The loss marked UIU's fifth overtime match of the season; the first four ended in draws. After each team had come up empty for the first 76 minutes, the Marauders took advantage of a Peacock cross that missed its mark to start a break into UIU territory. UMary's Taylor Pettigrew found Hannah Richter streaking down the field. Richter beat a Peacock defender and then sent a rocket past UIU's keeper to give the visitors a 1-0 lead in the 77
th minute.
As time wound down, the Peacocks gathered up for one last charge. UIU increased their pressure and pace on offense as the clock moved under five minutes to play.
Jessica Kron took a shot just outside the box on the far side of the field. UMary's keeper made a save on the shot, but lost the ball and
Jayna Morikawa was there to take advantage. Morikawa made her first collegiate goal count pulling the home team even in the 88
th minute.
Both teams had opportunities to end the game in the first overtime, but it was a Marauder attack early in the second overtime that marked the match's ending.
