Peacocks Rally to Tie Bulldogs in Duluth

UMD 1 - UIU 1.The Peacock women's soccer team scored a second half goal to tie the score and eventually draw with the Bulldogs.

The Peacock women's soccer team scored a second half goal to tie the score and eventually draw with the Bulldogs of the University of Minnesota Duluth on Sunday. UIU trailed 1-0 heading to the locker room at half time, but less than term minutes into the second half,  Upper Iowa tied the score.  After the game went through two overtimes and ended in a 1-1 tie, Upper Iowa's record moves to 2-7-4 overall and 2-5-3 in NSIC action, while UMD is now 4-7-2 overall and 2-6-2 in the conference.

The Bulldogs got in the scoring column first in the 36th minute when Kara Pascarella netted an unassisted goal. Pascarella's attempt was one of six shots in the first half for UMD.

Upper Iowa found the equalizer in the 55th minute just a little over nine minutes into the second half. Freshman Aimee Kemper finished an assist from Katie Samuels and beat the UMD keeper.

Stats of the Game
• The Bulldogs out shot the Peacocks 16-10 in the match, but only put one more shot on frame (9-8)... UMD claimed an 8-3 advantage in shots during the overtime periods
• The two teams played a physical game with a combined 26 fouls with UIU claiming 14 of the offenses

Quotables… "A point earned on the road is always welcome, but there were periods of the game where we might have grabbed all three. I thought we competed hard for the 90 minutes which is required in our league and scored a fantastic goal to equalize. This weekend means we have it all to do in the remaining five games, but the team spirit is good and we will give it an almighty go." - Head Coach James Price.

Up Next… Upper Iowa returns home next Friday and Sunday,  Oct. 25 and 27 to host Minot State University and the University of Mary at Pattison Field.
