The Upper Iowa men's soccer team hits the road for the second time this season, taking on Drury University on Friday night and then Missouri S&T Sunday afternoon. Kickoff for Friday's match has been pushed up to 5:30 PM due to the weather brought on by Tropical Storm Gordon. The weekend trip will wrap up four straight road games for the Peacocks before returning home to Pattison Field on September 19
th when they will take on William Jewell College.
The Peacocks opened their season in a pair of road games against the UW Parkside Rangers and the Lewis University Flyers. Upper Iowa fell to the Rangers 3-1 in their first game of the season, dropping to 10 men after receiving a red card midway through the second half. Sunday's match against the flyers saw the Peacocks playing at a disadvantage again after receiving a red card in the 16
th minute. Strong defending from the Peacocks kept the Flyers off the board through two overtime periods giving Upper Iowa their first shutout of the year and a hard fought draw away from home.
The pressure was applied to the UIU defenders as they saw 47 shots between the two games, allowing only three goals on the weekend. Upper Iowa faced 13 corner kicks to their two but the Peacocks were successful in clearing them away. Solid goalkeeping from
Nikolai Gogol helped keep things close for UIU, coming up with 16 saves between the two games.
About the Opponents
@Drury University… The Panthers are 0-2-0 in so far in 2018. Drury has conceded seven goals between their two games and have yet put the ball in the back of the net providing the Peacocks with an opportunity to notch their first win of the season. Friday's match will be the first time these two programs have faced each other since 2007.
@ Missouri S&T… The Miners lost for the second time of the year on Tuesday, falling to Davenport University in an overtime thriller to bring their record to 0-2-0 on the year. The Peacocks will have to keep a close eye on Redshirt Junior Austin Parks who has already netted three goals in just two games for the Miners.
