Upper Iowa snapped a three-match slide with a 3-0 victory over Augustana University on Saturday in Dorman Gym. The Peacocks combined a balanced offense with a stout defense to come up with the big win. UIU improves to 9-6 overall and 2-5 in the Northern Sun, while Augie falls to 5-10 overall and 0-7 in the conference.
The Peacocks controlled the match winning by scores of 25-16, 25-19 and 25-14. UIU's attack featured balanced scoring by three hitters.
Anna Winter led the group with 12 kills, while
Lauren Wombles added 10 and Kaitlyn Niedert put down 9.
Malissa LeClaire paced the offense with 30 assists and added 11 digs on defense.
UIU's blockers joined in on the fun against the Vikings with 10 team blocks. UIU's denials at the net were led by
Bethany Lovhaug, who came up with 3 solo and 3 assisted blocks.
Gabby Holmes spearheaded the backline defense with 16 digs, while
Haley Weepie added 12.
Upper Iowa forced Augustana into 14 first set attack errors and kept the pressure on in sets two and three. While the hitting improved for the Vikings, the Peacocks still held them to a .000 average.
The home team racked up 37 kills in their three sets, but only committed 12 attack errors with 4 coming in each set.
The Peacocks head out on the road next week to North Dakota. Upper Iowa will line up with the University of Mary on Friday, Sept. 28 and Minot State University on Saturday, Sept. 29.
