THIS WEEK IN PEACOCK BASEBALL… The UIU baseball team will wait an extra day to play their mid-week NSIC double header. After 10 inches of snow fell in Fayette on Saturday, the Peacocks had to find a new field to host the Vikings for their twinbill. Originally scheduled for Tuesday, the teams will now get together on Wednesday, Mar. 28 at 1 p.m. in Decorah, Iowa on the campus of Luther College. The Peacocks are scheduled to visit Duluth, Minn. this Friday and Saturday for a four-game NSIC series. Weather could play a role in where and when the games with the Bulldogs are played.
WILD WALK OFFS… The Peacocks posted a pair of walk off wins in back-to-back games against the University of Mary. Upper Iowa's
Conner Klostermann doubled in
Zac Cain in the bottom of the ninth inning of game two as the home team won 8-7 on Thursday. In Friday's first game, the Marauders scored four runs in the top of the eighth to take an 11-7 lead, but the Peacocks stormed back with five runs to rally and steal the win when
Emmett Kulick singled in Brenden Bulter from second. Butler had tied the game with a two-run double.
RIGHTY TIGHTY, LEFTY LACEY… Southpaw
Colin Lacey pitched a complete game, shutout in his debut at Robertson Woods Field. The freshman pitcher scattered eight Marauder hits while striking out four batters to keep UMary off the scoreboard. The win improved Lacey's record to 2-0; he has a 1.38 earned run average allowing just a pair of earned runs over his 13 innings of work.
SCOUTING THE VIKINGS... Augustana is coming off a perfect 4-0 weekend as well. AU swept Minnesota Crookston on Friday, 5-4 and 6-0. Weather in the Sioux Falls area forced games three and four of the series against UM Crookston to be cancelled. Augie then swept Briar Cliff in a non-conference doubleheader, 13-4 and 3-2. Viking pitcher David Flattery is the reigning NSIC pitcher of the week with eight shutout innings of work against the Golden Eagles; he struck out 13 batters while only surrendering one hit and three walks. Michael Svozil went 5-for-13 on the weekend with five stolen bases, five runs scored and two RBI.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS... Minnesota Duluth enters the week after a weekend split with Wayne State. The Bulldogs won game one 4-2 before falling 8-2 and 4-0 in games two and three. UMD managed to pick up game four 6-2. The Bulldog bullpen combined for a 0.00 ERA in 9 innings of work with 10 strikeouts while only surrendering 3 hits. Marcus Frederickson went 6.1 innings in game one against WSC; he allowed three hits while striking out eight batters. Henry George batted .313 against the Wildcats leading the way with five hits in the series.
