Peacocks Ready for Pair of Games at Drury Thanksgiving Tournament

Coming off a big home win against Quincy, Upper Iowa will square off against Drury on Friday afternoon and wrap up the tournament on Saturday against Missouri S&T.

The Upper Iowa men's basketball team will participate in the Drury Thanksgiving Tournament this weekend in Springfield, Missouri. The Peacocks will kick off the tournament in a game against The Drury Panthers at 3:15pm on Friday. On Saturday at 1pm the Peacocks will conclude the tournament with a game against Missouri S&T.

Weekend Recap... The Peacocks are coming off a big home win last Friday when they topped the Quincy University Hawks 104-92 in their first game in Dorman Gymnasium of the year. Jareese Williams and Kyle Haber led the Peacock offense combining for 11 of the team's 14 buckets from deep. Upper Iowa had five players reached double digits in scoring with Williams (27), Haber (17), Munachiso Okonkwo (17), Joe Smoldt (16), and Chris Olson (10). The win over the Hawks marks the first time since November of last year that the Peacocks reached the century mark.

Success from Deep... In their win over Quincy, Upper Iowa shooters hit more than half their shots from beyond the arc, hitting 15 of 29. On the other end of the floor the Peacocks held the Hawks to just 4 of their 18 attempts from deep. Through their first three games of the season, Haber and Williams are leading the Peacocks with a .455 and .444 3-point percentage.

Along with being one of the Peacocks' top scorers, Jareese Williams is also leading the team in rebounds, averaging 6.0 boards per game. Okonkwo is trailing Williams by just one rebound, hauling in 17 off the glass through his first 3 games. Despite the numbers put up by Williams and Okonkwo, the Peacocks have been outrebounded through their first three games 96-120.

About the Opponents…

Drury Panthers… The Panthers have split their first six games of the season but will be squaring off against the Peacocks after winning three straight. Drury's offense has been powered by a pair of Panthers who are averaging 10 or more points through their first six games. Sophomore Conley Garrison is leading the Panthers in scoring, averaging 12.7 points per game, followed closely by Julius Walker who is averaging 10.3 through his first six games. The Peacocks will be meeting the Panthers for just the third time and the first time since 2010.

Missouri S&T Miners… The Miners offense has been firing on all cylinders, averaging 98.5 points through their first four games. Missouri S&T has five different players who are averaging 10 or more points per game, led by junior guards CJ Hedgepeth (14.0) and Dulan Scott (11.0). The Miners and Peacocks will be squaring off for the first time in ten years and have only met three times since UIU made the jump to DII.
