Peacocks Sweep Dragons in Fayette

The Peacock volleyball team made it four sweeps in the last five matches on Saturday when they controlled a quick match against the Dragons of Minnesota State University Moorhead. Upper Iowa improved to 12-7 overall and 5-6 in the NSIC thanks to set wins of 25-18, 25-16 and 25-10.

UIU held the Dragon offense to a .096 hitting percentage on just 26 kills. The Peacocks' posted 63 digs in the match averaging 21 per set and adding 6 team blocks.

While the home team's defense was cruising, the Peacock offense was hitting on all cylinders. The Peacocks hit .339 for the match with 49 kills for an average of 16.3 per frame.

UIU used big runs in all three sets to distance themselves from their guests in each instance. The Peacocks opened with a 12-3 run in set one, an 8-2 run in set two to close out the frame and an 11-4 run to end the third set and match.

Kaitlin Niedert and Anna Winter both knocked down 14 kills with Niedert hitting .333 and Winter rolling at an outstanding .481 clip thanks to just one error. Lauren Wombles added 9 kills in the middle.

Malissa LeClaire distributed 37 assists (12.3/set), while Haley Weepie picked up the back line defense with 17 digs. Seven Peacocks got their hands on at least one assisted block in the match.

The Peacocks have a busy schedule next week with three matches. Upper Iowa will host Winona State University on Tuesday in Dorman Gym before heading to St. Cloud State University and the University of Minnesota Duluth on Friday and Saturday.
