The Peacocks men's soccer team fell to the Southern Nazarene Crimson Storm Saturday afternoon 2-1. Saturday's loss is the third in a row for the Peacocks and brings their record to 3-5-2 on the season.
The Peacocks got on the board first when
Italo Martins Soares netted his fourth goal of the season in the 51
st minute. Saturday's goal marks his ninth point in the last five matches. Italo finished the match with season highs in shots and shots on target with six and five respectively.
Upper Iowa goalkeeper
Anthony Velez earned the start and made his collegiate debut against the Crimson Storm. Velez shutout Southern Nazarene for the first 70 minutes and finished the night with two saves.
The Crimson Storm found two late goals against the Peacocks, leveling the score in the 71
st minute and the game-winner coming in the 81
st. The win was just the second all-time for Southern Nazarene against Upper Iowa and brings the record between these two programs to 5-2 in favor of the Peacocks.
Upper Iowa will return to action Sunday, October 14
th when they will take on MIAA rival Lindenwood University. The Peacocks took the first leg of the season series 2-1, beating the lions in dramatic fashion after a late penalty kick goal in the final minutes of the match. Kickoff for Sunday's match is scheduled for 1:30pm.
