The Upper Iowa Peacocks fell 3-0 to the No. 14 Fort Hays State Tigers Thursday night. The loss brings the Peacocks to 3-4-2 on the year and 2-2 in the MIAA. Thursday's game was the second straight matchup for the Peacocks against nationally ranked opponents, falling to the No. 17 ranked Northeastern State RiverHawks on Sunday.
The Peacocks were able to hold off the Tigers for the first 30 minutes of play, but then Santiago Agudelo turned his defender and created enough space to fire a shot into the back of the net to put the Tigers up 1-0. The goal from Agudelo would prove to be enough of a lead as the Peacocks were unable to put themselves on the board. Upper Iowa struggled to create scoring opportunities, being held to just three shots on the night.
One of the bright spots of the night for the Peacocks was goalkeeper
Nikolai Gogol. The Tigers took 26 shots on the night forcing Gogol to come up with 12 saves. The most notable save of the night was on a Tigers penalty kick in the 38th minute to keep the Peacocks within one.
Upper Iowa will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they will take on the Crimson Storm of Southern Nazarene University. The Peacocks will look to put an end to a two-game skid as they have gone 5-1 all time against the Crimson Storm. Saturday's kickoff is scheduled for 12pm.
