The Beavers used an early score and a pair of late goals to roll past the Upper Iowa women's soccer team on Friday evening in Minot, N.D. The #10 team in the Central Region snapped the Peacock's unbeaten streak to improve to 8-4-3, 6-4-2 NSIC while Upper Iowa falls to 3-10-2, 2-8-2 NSIC.

Sofia Lewis got the scoring started at the 1:14 mark when she beat Natalie Rudrud on the left side to find the back of the net and give MISU an early 1-0 lead. Jessica Kron had an opportunity to quickly rebound and tie the match up half a minute later but goalkeeper Erin Rafferty was right there to scoop it up.

The rest of the first half was a tale of yellow cards and MISU corner kicks. The Beavers were able to generate six corners compared to Upper Iowa's one. Each team was handed a pair of yellow cards before the Peacocks were dealt a red, forcing UIU to play down a number for the remainder of the game.

Upper Iowa outshot the Beavers 4-3 in the first half highlighted by a pair of chances by Katie Samuels and Maida Alijagic just before heading into the half. Samuels started the second period off with a free kick that just skimmed over the crossbar, which unfortunately would be the only opportunity the Peacocks would see the remainder of the game.

Despite the game being evenly matched, MISU capitalized on the numbers advantage late in the game to put away two late scores from Haley Berryman and Lewis in the 83rd and 85th minute, respectively. Rudrud - who had had an outstanding half in net - came off her line in both instances but the Beavers used second-efforts to get around the diving keeper and extend MISU's lead. MISU took 11 shots in the second half as part of its late offensive push.

Upper Iowa will look to bounce back against University of Mary on Sunday at 1 p.m who snapped Winona State University's five-game winning streak in a Friday afternoon battle that ended in a 2-1 decision.
