Box Score The Peacock women's basketball team dropped their NSIC contest against the Wildcats of Wayne State College on Saturday in Wayne, Neb. WSC forced the Peacocks into 19 turnovers and knocked down 10 three-pointers on the way to an 89-55 win. The loss dropped UIU's record to 2-18 overall and 0-14 in the conference, while Wayne State improves to 16-6 on the season and 10-4 in the conference.
The Wildcats dominated the first quarter 28-11 converting on 73% (11-15) of their shots from the field including a pair of three-pointers. Wayne State controlled the paint in the opening frame scoring a 16-4 advantage in points in the paint.
The lead reached 33 points, 46-13, midway through the second quarter. Upper Iowa closed out the first half by outscoring their hosts 10-2 over the final five minutes of the half. The Peacock run cut the margin to 25 as the teams went to the locker rooms. The margin reached 39 points in the second half before finally settling at 34 at the final horn, 89-55.
Three freshmen and a sophomore led the Peacocks in scoring;
Emma Gaber scored 14 points on four three-pointers to lead UIU and
Natalie Dinius tallied 13 points with one long-range bomb. Sophomore
Bekka Pierson and freshman
Savannah Domeyer both netted 10 points in the paint. Domeyer and
Haley Martin both pulled down 7 rebounds to help UIU record a 47 to 35 advantage in rebounding.
Upper Iowa will face the Marauders of the University of Mary on Fri., Jan. 26 at 6 p.m. and then line up against the Beavers of Minot State University on Sat., Jan. 27.
