This Week in Peacock Baseball... Upper Iowa gets back on the diamond this week with a pair of non-conference double headers. The Peacocks will take on the Hawks of Quincy University on Tuesday in Quincy, Ill. beginning at 1 p.m. and then turn around and head north to face the Beavers of Bemidji State University at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minn. at 9:30 p.m.

Big Innings Fueled the Jets... The Peacocks came away with a 1-3 record from their season-opening series with the Newman University Jets. Upper Iowa scored 30 runs in the four games while hitting .353 and slugging .489 with 6 doubles, 3 triples and a pair of homeruns, but allowed the Jets to hit .374 and score 46 runs. UIU scored first in three of the four games led by
Dominic Hillesheim (.636),
Anthony Calton (.500) and
Alex George (.438). All three had excellent weekends at the plate combining for 20 hits.
Colton Janssen (.385) and
Emmett Kulick (.357) each recorded a team-high 5 rbi, while Janssen also scored a team-high 5 runs.
Brett Fanning earned the lone win for the UIU pitching staff and
Mitch Moser threw two innings for his first save of the season
Looking Ahead... Upper Iowa will have another short break following the four games this week. The Peacocks will wait until Mar. 18 to host their NSIC openers against the University of Minnesota Duluth. The Bulldogs, last year's NSIC regular season champs, will visit Robertson Woods Field for a four-game series on Mar. 18-19. Upper Iowa will then host the Wolves of Northern State University on Mar. 25-26 in a pair of conference double headers. NSIC double headers consist of a 7-inning opener and a 9-inning nightcap.
