Peacocks Meet Vikings and Huskies on the Road in NSIC Play

The Upper Iowa baseball team is headed right back to Sioux Falls, S.D. on Tuesday afternoon for a pair of NSIC games against the Vikings of Augustana University. The Peacocks will then head to St. Cloud, Minn. to take on the Huskies of St. Cloud State University for a four-game series on Saturday and Sunday, Apr. 1-2.

This Week in Peacock Baseball... The Upper Iowa baseball team is headed right back to Sioux Falls, S.D. on Tuesday afternoon for a pair of NSIC games against the Vikings of Augustana University. The Peacocks will then head to St. Cloud, Minn. to take on the Huskies of St. Cloud State University for a four-game series on Saturday and Sunday, Apr. 1-2.

Out of Leftfield… Senior Anthony Calton is hitting .478, which ranks seventh in all of NCAA Division II and third in the Northern Sun Conference. The leftfielder is also reaching base in more than half of his at bats; his .545 on-base percentage ranks 23rd nationally and second in the conference. The southpaw has 22 hits this year including 4 doubles and a triple for a .609 slugging percentage.

Inning Eaters... Zackary Cain and Brett Fanning have been quite a 1-2 punch for the Peacock pitching staff over the last few weeks. Fanning is now 3-0 on the season with a 3.38 earned run average allowing just one run on ten hits over his last 14 innings which include a pair of complete game wins over University of Minnesota Duluth and Northern State University. Cain is 2-1 on the year with a 3.68 ERA. Cain earned a complete game victory over Northern State last Saturday allowing just two runs on five hits in his seven innings of work.

Scouting the Vikings... The Vikings swept their NSIC series against U-Mary. Augustana is on a 5-game winning streak. The team hit .339 on the weekend with seven home runs, 11 doubles and 32 RBI, while the pitching staff had a season-low 1.50 ERA with 41 strikeouts in 30 innings. Kris Ashland hit .500 with 4 home runs, 2 doubles, 7 hits and 9 RBI; the Viking also had a slugging percentage of 1.500 and an on base percentage of .533. Jacob Blank improved his consecutive innings without allowing an earned run to 26.1 pitching a complete game shutout and striking out 13.

Scouting the Huskies... The St. Cloud State baseball team recovered from a loss in the first game at Wayne State to win the next three outings against the Wildcats. The Huskies offense came alive to sweep the action on day two, 13-7 and 9-1. The Huskies have won three in a row after dropping three games in a row. Catcher Bo Schmitz led the Huskies with eight runs on the weekend, including four in the first game of the series. Mitch Mallack scored three runs and added three RBI's.
