PEACOCK STORYLINES...

OPENING SERIES AT ROBERTSON WOODS FIELD... The Peacocks opened up the home slate with four games against the Bulldogs of Minnesota Duluth last weekend. Upper Iowa went 1-3 in the four games, picking up the lone win in game three Sunday. Brett Fanning pitched a complete-game shutout, allowing seven hits while striking out four and walking none to earn the 2-0 win. The Peacocks dropped the first two games on the opening day of the series, 15-7 and 9-2, and the Bulldogs topped UIU 10-4 to wrap up the weekend.

WEEKEND LEADERS… Alex George totaled 7 hits to lead the Peacocks, while Luis D. Ravelo-Herrera tallied 5 hits on the weekend. Emmett Kulick and Ravelo plated the two runs in game three to help Upper Iowa to their lone win of the weekend. Fanning pitched the gem in game three to earn the win on the mound for UIU.

THE CLOSER, THE BETTER... The Peacocks are off to a great start in close games this season. Upper Iowa is 3-0 in one-run games this season, something that has plagued the Peacocks in years past.

NSIC HISTORY... Upper Iowa opens up its 11th season as a member of the Northern Sun Conference. Since their first year in the NSIC (2007), the Peacocks are 139-180 as a program (.438). UIU's best finish in the league came in 2008, with a 24-8 mark. 2017 also marks the 14th season at the NCAA Division II level for the program.

ABOUT THE OPPONENT…

NORTHERN STATE: The Wolves (7-5, 0-0 NSIC) recorded the 2-1 series victory over William Jewell College over the weekend in their final non-conference games of the season. Northern State combined for 34 runs, 39 hits, 11 extra base hits, and 19 walks in the three game series. NSU was sharp on defense giving up just three errors over the weekend and making some big plays to hold off the Cardinals. On the hill the Wolves notched two victories and tallied 12 strikeouts as a staff, while giving up 22 earned runs.
