THIS WEEKEND IN PEACOCK BASEBALL…

Upper Iowa will hit the diamond at Robertson Woods Field in Fayette for the first time this year as they open up the Northern Sun Conference schedule. The Peacocks will take on the Bulldogs of the University of Minnesota Duluth on Sunday and Monday, with both doubleheaders beginning at 12 p.m. All four games will be available via online audio on the Peacock Sports Network. The games were originally scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, but snow earlier in the week along with field conditions forced the teams to move the four-game series back a day.

PEACOCK STORYLINES...

Walk-Off at U.S. Bank Stadium... The Peacocks picked up a sweep of the Bemidji State Beavers on Mar. 8 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minn. UIU topped BSU in a non-conference doubleheader 6-2 late in a game that started at 9:42 p.m. and then won game two in the wee hours of Mar. 9, just prior to 2:00 a.m., on a walk-off, rbi-single off the bat of Alex George. Upper Iowa got two solid pitching performances from both Zackary Cain and Brett Fanning. Cain threw a complete game allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out three batters. Fanning got the no-decision after 5 innings of work, allowing three runs on four hits while striking out four Beavers.

The Closer, The Better... The Peacocks are off to a great start in close games this season. Upper Iowa is 3-0 in one-run games this season, something that has plagued the Peacocks in years past. UIU is also 2-0 when they score at least six runs in a game this season.

Northern Sun Conference History... Upper Iowa opens up its 11th season as a member of the Northern Sun Conference. Since their first year in the NSIC (2007), the Peacocks are 138-177 as a program (.438). UIU's best finish in the league came in 2008, with a 24-8 mark. Upper Iowa will play its 316th game this weekend as a member of the NSIC. 2017 also marks the 14th season at the NCAA Division II level for the program.

Familiar Faces… The Peacocks returned a load of experience from last year's squad including NSIC Players to Watch Tyus Adkins (P) and Alex George (OF), as well as Anthony Calton (OF), Colton Janssen (3B), Luis Ravelo (SS), Mitch Moser(2B), Jake Greco (OF/1B), Brett Fanning (P), Zac Cain (1B/P), Cal Seehase (DH/OF), Tanner Poor (P) and Emmitt (OF) and Ross Kulick (P).
