Peacocks Host Warriors Saturday in NSIC Opener

Upper Iowa will play their first game in Dorman Gymnasium in Fayette on Saturday when they host the Winona State Warriors for the first NSIC game of the season.

THIS WEEKEND IN PEACOCK MEN'S BASKETBALL…
After a busy non-conference schedule to open the season, Upper Iowa gets a week off before hosting the Northern Sun Conference opener on Thanksgiving weekend. The Peacocks will match up with the Warriors of Winona State University on Saturday, Nov. 25 at 4 p.m. inside Dorman Gymnasium in Fayette. The game will be broadcast online on UIU TV, and can be viewed in eastern Iowa on KCRG TV 9.2. The game can also be streamed on the Stretch Internet app on Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, and Android TV.

PEACOCK STORYLINES...

DOMINANT WEEK… The Peacocks had an impressive week in their final non-conference games away from Fayette. UIU dominated the Quincy Hawks from start to finish last Wednesday to win 81-59, and then traveled to the NMSU Tournament in Maryville, Mo. to pick up two more wins. Upper Iowa hit the century mark in a 110-92 win over Truman State, and then completed a comeback win the following day against Metro State, 68-64 to sweep the week. UIU shot 52% from the field for the week, including 46% from behind the arc.

CENTURY MARK… UIU put together one of their best offensive performances in their history against the Truman Bulldogs. The Peacocks scored 110 points, their second-most in a single game since becoming a member of NCAA Division II. It is the most points in a game against a fellow D-II opponent; UIU scored 116 points against NCAA Division III Iowa Wesleyan in November 2014.

CP3… Carson Parker (#3) had a vintage CP3 performance against Truman State last week, as he recorded the first triple-double for the Peacocks in the Brooks McKowen era, which began in 2013. Parker scored 23 points, hauled in 12 rebounds, and dished out 11 assists in the impressive win. The senior is now averaging 16.9 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 6.3 assists per game this season. Parker likes playing Winona State as well, as he scored 40 points in two games against WSU last season, including 33 in Winona, Minn.

SPREADING THE WEALTH… Parker is not the only one contributing to the offense that is averaging 77.1 points per game this season. Head Coach Brooks McKowen has a plethora of talent at his disposal, as UIU has five players averaging at least eight points per game, and three averaging in double-figures. Dennis Austin III is second in scoring with 13.4 points per contest, while freshman Joe Smoldt has scored at least 10 in five straight games, and is averaging 11.6 per game. Munachiso Okonkwo is chipping in with 9.5 per game, while Kam Rowan is at 7.8 this season.

THE SERIES…

Upper Iowa trails the all-time series 21-6 after splitting a pair of matchups each of the last two seasons. Prior to last year's games, the home team had won four straight. However, in 2016-17, the two squads met twice in a 48-hour time span. On Dec. 17, Winona State won in Fayette 85-67, but UIU answered with a win in Winona, Minn. on Dec. 19, 95-82.
