This Weekend in Peacock Volleyball... Upper Iowa leaves Fayette once again this weekend for a long trip north to Bemidji State University and the University of Minnesota Crookston this Friday and Saturday for a pair of Northern Sun Conference matches. The Peacocks enter the weekend having won their last two matches to improve to 13-3 overall and 4-3 in the NSIC, while the Beavers (3-13) come into the weekend having lost nine straight including an 0-7 start to the NSIC season and the Golden Eagles (4-11, 1-5 NSIC) have lost four straight matches leading up to the weekend. UIU will face Bemidji State at 6 p.m. on Friday and Minnesota Crookston on Saturday at 2 p.m.

NSIC Defensive Player of the Week… The Northern Sun Conference named junior middle blocker Bethany Lovhaug as the NSIC Defensive Player of the Week after her 18-block weekend. The junior averaged an NSIC-best 2.57 blocks per set over the seven sets, including a high of 12 blocks at UMary on Sunday morning. The defense for Lovhaug was the story, but offensively the Brooklyn Park, Minn. native added 15 kills in two matches as well. Lovhaug now leads the Northern Sun and ranks 23rd in the nation in blocks per set with a 1.21 average. Her 69 total blocks rank second-best in the league and 17th in the country. Only Jace Brahmer of Wayne State has more blocks in the NSIC this season (71) than Lovhaug.
