The Peacock women's soccer team traveled to northwest Minnesota on Saturday to meet up with the Dragons of Minnesota State University Moorhead. After seeing their early lead disappear, the team responded with a goal late in the match to reclaim the lead, and hold on the victory. With the win, UIU improves to 4-9-1 overall and 4-7-1 in the Northern Sun Conference. MSU Moorhead drops to 1-10-3 overall and 1-9-2 in league play.
The visitors started the scoring when junior
Jordyn Ostrowski tallied her team-leading fifth goal of the season in the 16th minute.
Birgit Rijnders, who would play a factor on offense later in the game as well, earned the assist on the play. UIU led 11-2 in shot attempts in the first half, dominating the ball the entire 45 minutes. However, in the 27th minute, one of those two shots went in for MSU Moorhead. Jessica Dallman scored her third goal of the season to tie the match, and the game was 1-1 going to halftime.
The Peacocks again outshot the home team in the second half, this time 8-5. For the game, it was a lopsided 19-7 lead in shot attempts, including 15-4 in shots placed on goal. Corina Edgington, the Dragon goalkeeper, did her part to keep the game close, as she registered a remarkable 13 saves in the match. However, the Peacocks would find a way to regain the lead again, and it came from Rijnders. The sophomore scored in the 75th minute to reclaim the lead, and
Caila Petrie and the defense held on in the final 15 minutes to preserve the win.
Petrie tallied three saves to earn the win, and offensively Rijnders led the way with five shot attempts. Ostrowski added three shots, while

Rachel Fowler and
Maddie North each added two shots.
Upper Iowa will head to Aberdeen, S.D. to match up with the Wolves of Northern State University on Sunday, Oct. 22 at 12 p.m. to close out the weekend.
