This Week in Peacock Baseball... Upper Iowa is closing out the regular season at home this week. The Peacocks welcome the Warriors of Winona State University on Wednesday afternoon for a midweek double header and then the Wildcats of Wayne State College on Friday and Saturday for a four-game series. The twinbill with Winona State starts at 1:30 p.m., while both days of action with Wayne State will start at 1 p.m. Upper Iowa will honor nine seniors between games on Saturday afternoon.
NSIC Tournament Chase... The Peacocks are one of five teams still in the hunt for the 7th and 8th spots in this year's NSIC Tournament. With the top six teams looking as likely locks, Upper Iowa will be in a dog fight this last week looking to move up from their current spot in 11th. The good news for Upper Iowa is that two of the teams they are fighting with for those spots are coming to Fayette. The Peacocks are 7-6 this season at home, but haven't hosted a weekend series at Robertson Woods Field since the first weekend of April.
Warriors Drop Four to Mavericks... The Warriors dropped a four-game series to Minnesota State last weekend at home. Mitchell Stalsberg pitched a complete game with 11 strikeouts and one earned run despite a 2-1 loss Sunday. Jesus Cazares led the Warriors with a .400 average and Tyler Nehring added WSU's lone home run of the series.
Wildcats on a Roll... Last week Wayne State went 5-1, splitting at home against Sioux Falls while claiming all four contests against Southwest Minnesota State over the weekend. Junior Aaron Krier hit a team-best .652 during the week going 15 for 23 with 2 homers, 12 RBI and nine runs scored, while senior first baseman Albert Johnson has a 21-game hitting streak, going 12 for 23 during the week (.522). Freshman starting pitcher Mitch Ragan fired his first complete game and shutout of the season for WSC, throwing a four hit shutout with seven strikeouts in 9-0 win over SMSU.
