This Weekend in UIU Baseball... The Peacocks will take on the #1 team in the country this Saturday and Sunday in a four-game, Northern Sun Conference series. The St. Cloud State University Huskies will host Upper Iowa at Joe Faber Field for the pair of double headers with Saturday's action now scheduled to begin at 1:30 and Sunday's play beginning at noon. The first double header was originally scheduled to be played at noon, but weather conditions predicted for early Saturday forced the time change.
Huskies Remain Undefeated... St. Cloud State continued its unbeaten streak with a 5-1 win at home over Minnesota State on Wednesday, Apr 6. SCSU sophomore Sheldon Miks was the pitcher of record for the Huskies with a complete game victory. He allowed just six hits, one run, no walks and struck out nine batters. The victory moves his season record to 6-0. The Huskies outhit Minnesota State 10-6 as Zach Metzger led SCSU with three hits and three RBIs. Kyle Lieser had two hits, two walks and two runs scored in the game.
Split Decision with Wolves... The Peacock offense struggled in the first game both days against Northern State scoring just 7 runs, but the team broke through for 33 runs in the second contest each day. UIU had the winning run at the plate in the final inning of both first games, but came up shy 5-3 and 5-4. Upper Iowa ended both second games early to win by ten runs 19-9 (8) and 14-4 (7). Luis Ravelo, Zachary Cain and
Jacob Greco combined for 18 hits in the series with Ravelo doing the most damage thanks to a pair of homeruns.
Collin Thomas and
Mitch Moser earned wins in the series while
Tanner Poor registered a save in game two.
Peacocks Trending... Emmett Kulick tied the team's high mark for consecutive games with a hit this season at 9. Kulick tied
Cody Booker and
Mitch Moser's early-season hit streaks and will look to make it 10 this weekend. After Kulick's 9-game streak,
Alex George and Greco are carrying 4-game hit streak. Jacob Stenberg is riding a 12-game streak of reaching base ahead of Kulick's 10-game streak of reaching base and two ahead of
Anthony Calton's 9 straight games on base.
Up Next... Upper Iowa has six more games away from Fayette next week. All six will be against Northern Sun Conference foes starting with a double header at the University of Sioux Falls on Wednesday, Apr. 13, at 1:30 p.m. The Peacocks will close out their ten-game road trip with four games at the University of Minnesota Crookston on Saturday and Sunday, Apr. 16-17, with both double headers beginning at noon.
