This Weekend in Peacock Baseball... Upper Iowa welcomes the Wolves of Northern State University to Robertson Woods Field on Sunday and Monday to kick off the Peacocks' second four-game, Northern Sun Conference series. UIU and NSU will start their double headers at 12 p.m. both days.
Series Win to Open NSIC Slate... The Peacocks dropped the first game of their four-game series with the Beavers of Minot State University, but won the final three games to claim the NSIC series in Fayette. Upper Iowa outscored their guests 31-24 in the four games despite losing the opener 10-2 to MiSU.
Mitch Moser improved to 3-0 on the season with a win in game four and added six hits at the plate. Seven other Peacock players had at least three hits in the series.
Scouting the Wolves... Northern State swept Southwest Minnesota State University in their NSIC opener with scores of 3-0 and 5-3 in Marshall, Minn. NSU is now 9-5 overall and 2-0 in the NSIC. The two teams were unable to play the first half of their four-game series due to the field conditions. Colton Boucher and Marcus Manderbach tallied wins for the Wolves on the hill, while senior Dillon Lee notched his first save of the season. Northern State recorded ten hits in the two games, while playing 16 innings of error-free ball in the field to secure the two victories over Southwest Minnesota State. At the plate NSU is led by Jack Schmidt, who has a .534 batting average in the Wolves' first 14 games with 31 hits including 3 homeruns.
Stepping Up to the Plate... Jacob Stenberg is leading the offense with his .393 average while splitting time behind the plate with fellow senior backstop
Cody Booker. Booker is second on the team with a .370 average. Booker has six extra base hits including four triples and is slugging a team-high .587. Two newcomers,
Emmett Kulick and
Anthony Calton are third and fourth in batting with averages of.364 and .333, respectively. The Peacocks are 32 of 39 in stolen base attempts this season, while their opponents are 15 of 19. On the hill, the Peacocks are led by a trio of Peacocks including
Mitch Moser (3-0, 2.88 ERA, 25 Inn,),
Tyus Adkins (2-2, 7.48 ERA, 21.2 Inn.) and
Zach Carstens (0-1, 1 Save, 4.91 ERA, 18.1 Inn.).
Up Next... The Peacocks will hit the road for a 12 game road trip with the first stop scheduled for Duluth, Minn. to take on the Bulldogs of the University of Minnesota Duluth in a non-confernce double header.
